HLS in the National Spotlight

Hospitals seeking efficiencies across the board will find answers in a February 2008 U.S. Business Review article featuring Crothall-managed, 405-employee Hospital Laundry Services in Wheeling, IL. The article details HLS innovations and efficiencies that result in a 30% savings for healthcare facilities who move laundry processing off site to an outsourced laundry cooperative.

HLS processes over 47 million

pounds of linen each year.

HLS offers reusable sterile textiles used in surgery, reducing landfill waste and hazardous waste by 1,500 tons per year. HLS also utilizes an energy recovery system that recaptures heat from used water. That heat is transferred to fresh, incoming city water, raising its temperature from 45 to 100ºF, and saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. HLS is developing a strategy that combines water re-use with water recycling.

Since February, they’ve achieved an annualized water usage reduction of 30 million gallons, with plans to reduce by another 20-30 million annualized gallons in the coming months.

A linen sterilization unit is one of the

innovations provided at HLS.
