Make A Difference

Tina Carter-Lang was transporting an elderly patient admitted from the ED when she noticed, from his ID, that it was the man’s 89th birthday. When Tina commented on it, he told her that his wife had passed away the month before…and that he had no family. At the end of the evening, Tina took the extra step to check back in on the man and, finding him alone, prayed with him. The next day on the way to work, Tina bought a bouquet of flowers and presented them to the patient while singing “Happy Birthday” to him. She continued to stop by his room to check on him and say “hi” throughout his stay. During one of those visits, the patient told Tina that she was like the daughter he never had. Since his discharge, Tina and her new friend have corresponded through mail.
