Make A Difference

Mary has devoted 16 years of service to Easton Hospital. Mary’s friend, Sandra Wilson, taught her the art of quilting. The two women each have a brother that is presently in a nursing home. One day after visiting their brothers, the women thought how convenient it would be to have a small bag attached to their brothers’ walkers or wheelchairs to carry some belongings while being transported around the hospital.

Starting in late November 2007, Mary realized the need at Easton Hospital for such a handy item. Mary is donating both her time and the materials that it takes for this project. She is working with Nancy Shapiro from the Rehab and Ortho centers, supplying the bags for both wheelchairs and walkers. Nancy reports the numbers to Mary at the end of every month. Last month, they had a total of 23 patients that received the bags, which they are allowed to take home when they are discharged. A homemade quilted bag — what a nice touch!
