Make A Difference

The environment at Central State Hospital ICF/MR can be very challenging. The facility serves 33 full-time, developmentally challenged residents. Although it can be a difficult place to work, it also provides a unique opportunity to build intimate and loving relationships.

Over the past nine years, Mary Taylor has been able to connect with many of the residents in a very special way. One particular resident refuses to let anyone but Mary clean her room. Another sits in her rocking chair every morning until Mary stops by so they can talk, and sometimes, Mary will even bring her a Coke from the vending machine.

Whenever any of the residents are sick, Mary knows what is wrong because she takes the time to talk...and listen. Mary puts her heart and soul into her work, making a direct impact on the lives of the people she serves.
