Make a Difference Winner

How many charity events does your hospital sponsor? Sometimes, it seems like there is a new charity springing up every week, with requests for donations, sign-ups for volunteers, and pleas for support. We all feel the tug on our heart strings and wish we could do more to help out with the many worthy causes. But so many times, we feel overwhelmed and we have to make choices as to how much we can really help.

Not Paul Bauder. No matter what the cause, "Paulie" (as he is affectionately known) is eager to lend his support. He is the first one to sign up as an event volunteer, and usually collects the highest amount of donations. The Crayola Crayon Factory, Musikfest, Senior Circle, Relay for Life- at all of these events, Paulie is the center of attention, interacting with patients, family members, and especially the children. Paulie always comes prepared with costume in tow. He does caroling at Christmas time, and dresses as "Pumpkin Man" at Halloween to entertain everyone.

Paulie's enthusiastic volunteering has inspired several letters from hospital staff members who single him out for thanks. Following the recent Relay for Life event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, one coordinator commented, "While at the event, Paul's enthusiasm was evident, and he was recognized by many of those in attendance because of his dedication." Another volunteer adds, "Paulie was an asset to our team, not only by his presence and fundraising, but also in his unique ability to energize the Easton Hospital family, team members, and the innumerous community members with whom he interacted at the event."

paulie's enthusiasm for life and for those who are less fortunate is evident. Perhaps because he has dealt with his own challenges, he has an incredible knack for treating everyone with respect and empathy. He is a breath of fresh air, and an inspiration to all of us at Crothall.
