Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit excellent telephone etiquette and listening skills
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, orderly and pleasant work environment for staff; ensure dispatch equipment is safe and in good, clean working condition; provides and maintain adequate levels of supplies and equipment
  • Understand and apply knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices, and proper body mechanics
  • Understand and is able to determine, explain and develop dispatcher logic and transporter activities; act as a transporter when necessary
  • Ensure proper operation of TeamChimes hardware, software programs, page and phone handling systems; troubleshoot and work with Information Systems and Persistech
  • Direct the activity of the transport function and transporters, ensuring timely completion of tasks; monitor procedures related to availability and completion task, follow-up on issues related to service and operations in a timely manner
  • Function as a liaison between Patient Transportation and other departments
  • Develop and promote positive effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors and staff; ensure maximum staff productivity
  • Resolve problems related to patient, visitor, staff or employee complaints; recommend and participate in the solution of on-going problems or trends
  • Act as a positive role model; possess integrity, focus, commitment, flexibility, diplomacy and a team spirit

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Effective organizational skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate and direct the activities of transport requests and associates’ productivity. Service/quality mentality and attitude
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Preferred dispatcher, transport or hospital experience
  • Basic computer skills utilizing a Windows-based Operating System required
  • Ability to troubleshoot system problems related to computer or software systems
  • Analytical ability to evaluate task and personnel status; interpret demand and response times in accordance with patient acuity and personnel availability
  • Excellent judgment for problem solving under emergency or stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact, motivate and communicate with a wide range of staff and hospital personnel in a professional manner; guest relation’s skills must be strong, genuine and noticeable
  • Physical ability to withstand frequent to prolonged sitting or walking if performing transport functions
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills
